Tell us about a time when you felt out of place.
There was this one time at a networking event that comes to mind. Everyone seemed to know each other and effortlessly bounced from one conversation to the next. I walked in, trying to blend in, but it felt like I’d somehow missed the memo on how to fit in. I kept adjusting my posture, making my way around, and giving polite nods, but everything felt rehearsed. It wasn’t that anyone was rude, but there was this sense that they all shared an understanding, a familiarity, that I was on the outside of. After a few awkward exchanges, I found myself lingering near the exit, pretending to check my phone. I left earlier than planned. It felt like being a guest at a party where you’re not quite sure why you were invited.
