Positive Jobs of Ravana

Ravana is often depicted as the antagonist in the Ramayana, but he was also a complex and learned figure with many positive qualities. Here are some of the positive contributions and achievements of Ravana:
1. A Great Scholar and Devotee of Shiva
Ravana was one of the greatest devotees of Lord Shiva. His devotion was so intense that he composed the Shiva Tandava Stotram, a powerful hymn dedicated to Shiva, which is still recited by devotees today. He even attempted to lift Mount Kailash to prove his devotion, earning Shiva’s admiration.
2. A Master of the Vedas and Shastras
Ravana was not just a king but also a Brahmin scholar well-versed in the Vedas, Upanishads, and Shastras. He had deep knowledge of astrology, medicine, and music, making him one of the most learned figures of his time.
3. A Skilled Musician and Creator of the Rudra Veena
Ravana was an expert in music and is credited with inventing the Rudra Veena (a stringed instrument). His love for classical music and devotion to Shiva was evident in his compositions and his ability to play various musical instruments.
4. An Excellent Administrator and King of Lanka
Under Ravana’s rule, Lanka (modern-day Sri Lanka) was a prosperous kingdom known for its advanced architecture, infrastructure, and wealth. His administration ensured that his people lived in prosperity, with no records of poverty or social injustice during his reign.
5. A Fearless Warrior and Master Strategist
Ravana was a powerful warrior who had mastered many celestial weapons. He had defeated powerful celestial beings, including Kubera (the god of wealth) and the Devas, proving his military prowess.
6. Promoter of Ayurveda and Medicine
Ravana had extensive knowledge of Ayurveda and Siddha medicine. He is said to have written treatises on medicine and healing, and his works are still considered valuable in certain traditional medical practices.
7. Respected Guru and Teacher
Despite his arrogance, Ravana was respected as a teacher. It is said that after the war, Lord Rama himself asked his brother Lakshmana to learn from Ravana’s wisdom while he was on his deathbed. Ravana shared his knowledge about politics, diplomacy, and the fleeting nature of life.
8. Protector of Women (Except for Sita’s Abduction)
While his act of abducting Sita was wrong, it is important to note that Ravana never forced her into marriage or violated her honor. In many versions of the Ramayana, he is portrayed as maintaining a strict moral code in this regard.
9. A Man of His Word
Ravana was known to keep his promises and respect Brahmins, saints, and scholars. He had immense self-respect and followed his principles, even when it led to his downfall.
10. Symbol of Unmatched Determination
Despite his arrogance, Ravana’s story teaches the importance of determination, intelligence, and devotion. He was a man who rose from being an outcast to becoming the King of Lanka through sheer willpower.
While Ravana’s arrogance and ego led to his downfall, his intelligence, devotion, and contributions in various fields make him a multifaceted figure in Hindu mythology. His life teaches both the greatness of knowledge and the consequences of unchecked pride.
